Matt’s Field of Dreams Playground

On July 29, the Chilton community came together to celebrate the grand opening of Matt’s Field of Dreams at Nennig Park. This new playground honors Matt Kolbe, a cherished local resident who was known for his boundless enthusiasm and support for Chilton Tiger sports. Despite facing significant health challenges throughout his life, Matt’s positive spirit remained unwavering. His presence at local sports events and his embodiment of acceptance, kindness, and selflessness inspired his family to establish the Matt Kolbe Memorial Foundation, a powerful tribute to his enduring legacy.

The Kolbe Family approached the City of Chilton in March 2021 to propose adding a wheelchair-accessible swing to the park. With strong support from city officials and the community, their idea quickly expanded into a vision for a full-scale, inclusive playground. Local enthusiasm, successful fundraising – including grants, charitable events, a public matching campaign, and a major donor’s generosity – accelerated the project.  With approximately $625,000 raised, construction began in Fall 2023 and was completed by this July. 

Calumet County’s park system now boasts its first inclusive and accessible playground, a transformative addition to the region. Featuring a baseball-themed design, the playground allows children of all abilities to play together, fostering inclusion and acceptance. Local schools and special needs programs are planning visits, eager to experience this engaging new space. The Kolbe family is thrilled to see the playground become a vibrant setting where everyone can benefit from its inclusive features.  

Charitable funds with our Chilton Area Community Foundation partner contributed $40,000, including $15,000 from the Chilton Area Community Foundation Fund. An additional $10,000 in grants were contributed from charitable funds with the Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region, including the Community Vision Fund.
