Gift helps comfort children in times of crisis
Moments of crisis are difficult, transformative experiences. Due to the nature of their work, law enforcement officers are regularly tasked with assisting victims through these extremely difficult situations. Too often those victims include children.
The REACH-A-Child initiative provides a valuable tool to help children during times of crisis. Whether the children are in an automobile accident, victims of domestic disturbance or temporarily homeless, REACH-A-Child wants to help first responders engage these children in a positive way through the power of a book.
Providing a book and a backpack to a child in crisis diverts their attention from the tragic situation and allows the officer to comfort them.
A donation from the Shawano Area Community Foundation in 2021 allowed Shawano County Sheriff’s officers to participate in this important program by distributing 750 books to children in crisis.
The Shawano Area Community Foundation is one of five geographic affiliates we partner with in the Fox Valley. Our other partners include Brillion Area Family of Funds, Chilton Area Community Foundation, Clintonville Area Foundation, and Waupaca Area Community Foundation.
