Peter and the Wolf to teach local first graders about orchestra and ballet

Makaroff Youth Ballet (MYB) is thrilled to be premiering “Peter and the Wolf” at our spring concert on May 17 & 18, 2019.

It’s the first big step in gearing up to present the piece, introducing both ballet and the instruments of the orchestra, to Appleton first graders in early 2020.

We would not have been able to undertake such a large project without the support of the grant we received from the Bright Idea Fund within the Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region.

The grant enabled us to collaborate with the Appleton Area School District and Fox Valley Symphony to launch an integrated live performance of Peter and the Wolf, introducing all first graders to ballet and orchestra at a key early age.

Artistic director Jeanette Makaroff has been working hard on creating the staging and choreography, and our creative team is beginning to build the sets,  design the lighting, and create the costumes.

It’s a big project for a small non-profit like MYB. Sharing classical ballet with the community is a big part of who we are, and our dancers are so excited to have the opportunity perform “Peter and the Wolf” for our concert audience and young area students.
