Foundation among 9 area nonprofits with top rating
A leading website for evaluating the impact of charitable giving has given its top rating to nine charities in the Fox Valley region, including the Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region.
Charity Navigator gives a four-star rating — its highest — to the these nine local charities:
- Boys and Girls Club of the Fox Valley (90)
- Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region (92)
- Greater Fox Cities Area Habitat for Humanity (97)
- Homeless Connections (92)
- LEAVEN (90)
- Rawhide Boys Ranch (90)
- Tri-County Community Dental Clinic (91)
- United Way Fox Cities (93)
- YMCA of the Fox Cities (94)
The evaluation is based on financial stability, accountability and transparency. Nonprofits must earn at least 90 points on a 100-point scale to receive the top rating.
President/CEO Curt Detjen said the top rating reflects the Community Foundation’s core values, which include integrity, respect and teamwork, as part of our mission to strengthen our community by helping people make a difference in the lives of others.
“Our commitment to integrity includes transparency and honesty in our dealings with others,” Detjen said. We achieve that through the efforts of our staff and the involvement of community volunteers. We want all of our actions to demonstrate that we keep our promises and commitments. Our donors are entrusting us with precious gifts, both during their lifetimes and after they’re gone. We work to earn that trust every day, and will every day in the future.”
Our annual Report to the Community details giving during the fiscal year that ended June 30. The Community Foundation reported assets of $326 million, with $36.8 million contributed to its 1,490 charitable funds and a record $26.8 million in grants awarded from the funds.
The Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region also has earned certification as meeting the national standards of operating excellence as determined by the Virginia-based Council on Foundations. We are the second-largest certified community foundation in Wisconsin, behind the Greater Milwaukee Foundation, and among the largest 10% of all community foundations nationally (as measured by assets).
