Help veterans Connect to Courage
A coalition of veteran support groups that is mobilizing friends, family and comrades of veterans considering suicide will display the many available community tools at the Connect to Courage: Keeping Our Veterans Alive awareness- building event 1 p.m.-8:30 p.m. March 28 at the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center.
The event, supported by a Community Education grant from the Community Foundation, offers “QPR” (Question, Persuade and Refer) training 5 p.m.-6:30 p.m. It is designed to help anyone save the life of someone who is suicidal. The documentary film “Project 22” will be shown at 2:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. The title refers to an average of 22 veterans per day committing suicide in the United States.
A resource fair with 50 booths with displays from local community support organizations will be open 1:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
The organizations coordinating the event are:
- American Legion Post 38
- Prevent Suicide Fox Cities
- Fox Valley Veterans Council
- Veterans Mentor Group
- Fox Valley Technical College Veterans Services
The event is free and open to the public.
