Meet the intern
Hello blog readers!
My name is Alex Kent and I am spending the summer months as the marketing intern here at the Community Foundation.
I grew up in Appleton and graduated from West High School in 2010. While I’m spending the summer here, I live in Minneapolis and will be a senior at the University of Minnesota in the fall majoring in marketing and nonprofit management. So far at the Community Foundation, I’ve been going on site visits to local nonprofits (such as Harbor House and COTS), creating promotional materials and gathering biographical information about the people whose names appear on several of our memorial scholarship funds.I’m looking forward to photographing and taking video (check out my first one) of community programs and events that receive Foundation grants, and visiting other nonprofits we work closely with here at the Community Foundation. It has been an amazing experience so far to see the change that is happening in our community first-hand. As an Appleton resident for most of my life, I look forward to seeing other local nonprofits making a difference, and being able to make a difference myself.
Here are some fun facts about me:
- I spent about five months last year studying in France and traveling through Europe.
- I play several instruments, including the piano, guitar and ukulele.
- The highest scoring word I have ever spelled in Scrabble is “gazebo.”
Thanks for reading and have a wonderful summer! I know I will.
