Curt Detjen
has been the Community Foundation’s President and CEO since 2003. A product of Combined Locks, Curt went on to earn degrees at St. Norbert College and Notre Dame University. After working in business consulting and as Appleton’s Community Development Director, he found in the Community Foundation the most effective way for him to work to preserve the quality of life in the Fox Valley region. Marti Hemwall
is vice president for community and donor engagement. She applies her training as an anthropologist in her work to understand nonprofits and their organizational effectiveness. Along with other staff, she helped to create a new approach to supporting nonprofit organizations that includes both planning and collaboration. Dave Horst
calls himself “a recovering journalist.” He came to the Foundation in 2003 after 24 years writing and editing for daily newspapers, 19 of those at The Post-Crescent in Appleton, where he continues to write a nature column. In addition to writing, design and web duties, he oversees environmental grant-making. Outside of work, his interests include kayaking, viewing and photographing nature, and tending to the llamas with his wife, Jean, on their Sandhill Llama Farm. Email him at [email protected].
