Kimberly Point Lighthouse Preservation Project Breaks Ground

Published on September 10, 2026

Kimberly Point Lighthouse has stood where Lake Winnebago meets the Fox River in the Neenah community for over 80 years and on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, the City of Neenah Parks & Recreation Department held a groundbreaking ceremony celebrating the start of the Kimberly Point Lighthouse Preservation Project. The ceremony, held at the lighthouse at 290 Lakeshore Ave., marked the official start of a project that will help preserve one of Neenah’s most recognizable waterfront landmarks for residents and visitors to enjoy for years to come.

A Community Investment Made Possible by Generous Donors

This preservation effort wouldn’t be possible without the generosity of the community itself. Five donors chose to sponsor the Kimberly Point Lighthouse Preservation Project through funds held at the Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region, channeling their personal commitment to this landmark into lasting, tangible support. Their gifts reflect something the Community Foundation sees often: people who love where they live, and who want to make sure that love is felt for generations to come.

At the ceremony, Curt Detjen, President & CEO of the Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region, shared remarks on the significance of community-driven preservation. “Strong communities care deeply about the places and things that we associate with the place we call Home. The Kimberly Point Lighthouse is Neenah, through and through. The Foundation is so pleased to help our donors support its preservation and improvements.”

Why It Matters

Landmarks like the Kimberly Point Lighthouse anchor a community’s sense of identity and shared memory. Preserving it ensures that the waterfront views, family visits, and quiet evening walks that generations of Fox Valley residents have enjoyed at Kimberly Point will continue well into the future. It’s also a reminder of the power of philanthropy at the local level. When individuals establish funds at the Community Foundation, they gain a flexible, lasting way to support the causes and places closest to their hearts.
