Empowering the Future: Celebrating Fall Graduates of Starting Point
On Wednesday, December 4 Fox Valley Technical College was alive with excitement and hope as 15 remarkable women graduated from the Starting Point Program, a cornerstone of the Women’s Fund’s work. This milestone marked not just the culmination of their journey through the program but also the beginning of new chapters in their lives, brimming with confidence, resilience, and a clearer sense of purpose. Starting Point is a partnership between the Women’s Fund, B.A.B.E.S. Child Abuse Prevention Program and Fox Valley Technical College. It uses the Two-Generation approach, which provides opportunities for children and parents together, to overcome obstacles and succeed.
The Starting Point Program embodies the belief that “Generosity changes people’s lives,” which was shared by Kara Nowak who runs the Appleton Starting Point program. By connecting young women with resources, mentorship, and a supportive community, it provides the foundation they need to dream big and achieve their goals. Every contribution from donors and supporters fuels opportunities for young women to explore their full potential.
Starting Point’s innovative approach recognizes that investing in mothers creates a ripple effect that benefits their children, too. By focusing on leadership development, financial literacy, and personal growth, the program equips young women with the tools to build stable, empowered lives for themselves and their families. When mothers thrive, their children have better chances to thrive as well—creating a brighter future for the next generation.
One of the counselors from Samaritan Counseling reflected, “A supportive community helps us see our full potential.” This community and partnership is at the heart of Starting Point, creating a safe space where young women can overcome challenges and grow into confident leaders.
For the graduates, the celebration was not just about diplomas—it was a moment to honor their growth. “We’re celebrating not just our achievements but our transformation,” shared another graduate. The program’s focus on personal development, leadership, and life skills ensures that each participant leaves with more than a certificate; they leave with the tools and belief in themselves to shape their future.
As we celebrate this year’s graduates, we are reminded of the power of investing in young women. The Starting Point Program doesn’t just change lives—it creates a ripple effect of empowerment, inspiring others to step forward and make a difference.
