Linda Blohowiak shares why she created the Henn Family Fund within the Shawano Area Community Foundation.

What inspired you to give back to your community?

I inherited money from my parents. My parents were very generous people and I wanted to honor them by using some of the funds to give back to the community as they always did.

Why did you choose to give through the Shawano Area Community Foundation? 

I live in Shawano County and through my involvement with the Shawano County Arts Council, I was aware of the Shawano Area Community Foundation and the good work they do. It just seemed to be the perfect fit. My financial advisor also agreed that it would be a great vehicle to use for giving purposes.

What do you hope to accomplish through your donation/fund? 

My fund is named the Henn Family Fund after my parents, Frank and Joann Henn. When the Henn Family Fund is listed as a supporter of a cause, I hope it serves as a tribute to them, as well as helps advance the cause of the organization it is given to.

What’s your favorite grant you’ve supported? 

Last year, I gave a grant to Give Big Green Bay as a match for Aspiro, a Brown County organization serving people with developmental disabilities and their families. I worked at Aspiro for 27 years until my retirement in 2018. It was a privilege to work for such a great organization that was such a huge help to this population. Two of my siblings were born with severe disabilities during a time when my parents had few options other than to place them in an institution. Through organizations like Aspiro, that doesn’t have to happen today. I love being able to support them.
