Year-End to New Year

Published on November 4, 2026

As the year draws to a close, many of us start to set resolutions, make plans, and promise ourselves that this will be the year we live a little more intentionally and show up a little more fully.

For most of us, this season is a time for reflection.

During one of the busiest times of the year, we are reminded to take moments to breathe and reflect on the people and causes near and dear to our hearts. In these final weeks of 2026, we especially remember our local nonprofits. Their staff and volunteers are working overtime to make the most of the most important fundraising period of the year.

That’s because a large share of their annual donations arrive in November and December. The support nonprofits receive in these weeks often shapes the year ahead, determining whether they start January on solid ground, ready to expand their programs and serve more people, or play catch-up, stretching limited resources to meet growing needs.

As you take the quiet moments this season to grant from your Community Foundation Advised Fund, know that your generosity is fueling the busiest and most impactful work happening across the Fox Valley region right now, and helping local nonprofits begin the new year ready to serve.

Tips for Year-End Giving

Accelerate giving in 2026 to take advantage of current deduction rules.

  1. Consider “bunching” donations to exceed the standard deduction in one year and take the standard deduction the next.
  2. Donating appreciated securities held more than one year to avoid capital gains tax and receive a full market value deduction. To ensure prompt processing, please notify us of your gift in advance and follow our stock transfer instructions: cffoxvalley.org/stock.
  3. Talk to your advisor about donor advised funds or legacy gifts that align with values and goals. Our team here at the Community Foundation is happy to be a part of this conversation and help you fulfill your charitable giving goals. Whether or not you receive a tax deduction, your generosity matters. Philanthropy is driven by purpose. Your favorite charity needs you, now more than ever.
