Community comes together to pay tribute to Oscar C. Boldt
Folks from around the community came together last night at the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center to remember a Fox Valley legend.
Oscar C. Boldt, affectionately known as “O.C.,” passed away the morning of June 9, 2020 with his son Tom and wife Pat at his side. He was 96. With dedication, entrepreneurship and consummate business ethics, Oscar C. Boldt spent more than half a century transforming Boldt Co., the family business his grandfather founded in 1889, into one of the nation’s largest and most highly respected construction firms.
Those who couldn’t attend in person joined the tribute for O.C. online. He was remembered not only for his huge impact in the Fox Valley but the many personal memories of a man who meant so much to his family, friends, neighbors, co-workers and community. He was a founding board member of the Community Foundation. Even at 96, O.C. continued to actively serve on committees within the Community Foundation, and was known for his generous spirit.
“Groundbreaking“, an O.C. Boldt tribute exhibition is now on display at the Trout Museum of Art’s main gallery through May 15, featuring artifacts, history and O.C.’s architectural legacy projects in the Fox Valley, including the Trout Museum renovation, PAC, the 222 Building, and more.

“O.C. had such passion and determination for making this community better! He always had a knack for inspiring the best efforts in people, and making people want to be on his team.,” says Curt Detjen, President and CEO. “That was true in business, philanthropy and community life. He was thoughtful and cared about people. It was always a special day when O.C. would walk into the Foundation office carrying Dilly bars for the staff to say thanks for the work we do. He was bigger than life yet a gentle soul for those who knew him well.”
The Boldts are part of our Himebaugh Legacy Circle, assuring the causes they care about will continue to have support forever.

Oscar Boldt foundation provided some of the first grant money for Cycling Without Age in the Fox Valley. We are forever grateful for his willingness to support this innovative program. I had an opportunity to thank him directly at the Downtown YMCA, where we were both working out in the fitness center. Mr. Boldt was 95 at the time and was exercising prior to heading to work.
